Support our work
At Sunnyside Literacy Lab, we have pursued excellence and equity before profit.
We operate on a modest budget with zero margins.
Our sliding scale and scholarships make the program accessible for our families.
Our intensive educator development means our educators return to their school sites with greater capacity to support developing readers.
We take pride in serving our community.
32% of learners have IEPs (documented learning differences)
32% of learners are bilingual
42% of learners are adolescents
Elementary learners enter an average of 2 years below grade level
Adolescent learners enter an average of 4 years below grade level
100% of our educators work in Title I schools (75% or more students from low-income families)
We are moving to our new home at The Episcopal Mission in Sunnyside.
This move will place education squarely in the community context, advancing literacy activism in our neighborhood.
To increase access even further, we are also becoming a 50c3, a process that requires significant effort and expertise.
We are raising funds for both of these major transitions.
Things we’ll use funds for:
Furniture
White board
Calm lighting
Lawyer’s fee
CPA fee
