Transferable Literacy Strategies for Younger Readers is a flexible guidebook that teaches fundamental literacy skills.
We developed this guidebook so that learners can open up any book or article and have the tools to understand the fundamental components of that text successfully.
This text is divided into two main sections: fiction and nonfiction. Each section provides a set of literacy strategies that are specific to that genre. Each literacy strategy comes with an explanation and a graphic organizer.
The literacy strategies are transferable, which means they can be used from elementary school to college with texts of varying difficulties and topics. Depending on the age and reading level of the learner, they will decide whether to work through these strategies independently or with a helper.
